Pierre Bedard Biography

1960

Pierre Bédard was born on March 24, 1960, in Quebec City, Quebec. He pursued studies in Applied Arts, where he was guided by the well-known watercolourist Gyslain Lefebvre, and later studied Plastic Arts at the Cégep de Sainte-Foy. While Bédard engaged with formal education, he considers himself largely self-taught, driven by a personal imperative to "sift through all of the information to follow your own direction." Since 1982, Bédard has dedicated himself to painting as his full-time occupation. He has lived and worked in the Charlevoix region and Montreal, exhibiting his work in galleries across Canada, the United States, and France.

Bédard's artistic style is recognized for its vibrant colour palette and expressive, gestural brushwork, often categorized as figurative expressionism with fauvist influences. His subject matter is varied, encompassing landscapes, still lifes, animals, and the human figure, which serve as vehicles for his exploration of colour, texture, and form. His primary medium is oil on canvas, though he has also worked in acrylics, watercolours, and pastels. His work is included in several corporate and public collections, including Loto-Québec, Scotiabank, Calpine Canada, Sanofi Winthorp, and Wolverton Securities.
