Danielle Krysa is a British Columbia based mixed media artist who focuses on themes of female strength and resilience. After completing a BFA in Visual Arts and post-graduate studies in graphic design, Krysa worked in advertising and design before transitioning to full-time art practice. Her work combines found images, paint, and text, often incorporating humor and what she describes as "the occasional curse word, when required."
Krysa's artistic practice centers on celebrating women's perseverance and accomplishments through mixed media collages. Her series UNDEFEATED takes the form of large, decorative trophy-shaped collages that serve as awards recognizing women's resilience throughout history, particularly when told to "keep quiet." Beyond her studio practice, Krysa has established herself as a significant voice in contemporary art discourse through her website The Jealous Curator (established 2009), where she writes about and promotes other contemporary artists. She has curated exhibitions in cities including Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Toronto.
Krysa has authored seven books: "Creative Block," "Collage," "Your Inner Critic Is A Big Jerk," "A Big Important Art Book – Now with Women," "A Big Important Artist: A Womanual", "How to Spot an Artist" and "Art and Joy: Best Friends Forever". She has spoken at notable venues including TEDx, PIXAR, Creative Mornings, and CreativeLive, and has been interviewed for video segments on oprah.com. Her multifaceted career encompasses both personal artistic practice and broader advocacy for contemporary art, particularly work by women artists.
