Steve Hansen is a Nisga'a and Haida visual artist and wood carver based in British Columbia. Rooted in Northwest Coast artistic traditions, his studio practice centers on hand-carved relief panels and three-dimensional wood sculptures. He works primarily with regional hardwoods and softwoods native to the Pacific Northwest, including alder, red cedar, and yellow cedar.

Hansen's compositions incorporate traditional Northwest Coast formline conventions, clan crests, and Indigenous oral histories. His relief carvings frequently explore spiritual figures and cultural narratives, such as the Nisga'a legend of Txeemsim. To highlight symbolic relationships and structural depth in his relief panels, Hansen often integrates contrasting red and yellow cedar inlays into carved alder surfaces.

Working out of Western Canada, Hansen continues to maintain an active carving practice focused on preserving and transmitting Pacific Northwest Coast Indigenous art forms. His wood carvings contribute to contemporary regional representations of Haida and Nisga'a visual tradition.
