Walter Lampe was a Canadian artist born in 1930. He was an accomplished academic who balanced his professional career with his artistic pursuits. Lampe attended St. Johns High School in Winnipeg, where he demonstrated exceptional abilities as both a student and leader, earning the prestigious Governor General's Medal and serving as school president.

After his early education, Lampe pursued advanced studies, eventually obtaining a PhD in Applied Social Science from Case Western Reserve University. His professional life spanned various leadership roles in the Jewish community in both Winnipeg and Vancouver, culminating in a full professorship at the University of Manitoba. Throughout his professional career in education and social services, Lampe maintained an active practice as a creative visual artist.

Lampe was married to Miriam (Miggie) Coop in 1952 at the I.L. Peretz School, a significant institution for the Coop family. Together they raised a family, though they experienced the profound loss of their son Yale. Walter Lampe passed away on November 25, 1999, at the age of 69, survived by his wife, his son Jonathan, and grandchildren William and James.

While continuing his distinguished career as an educator and community leader, Lampe was recognized as a gifted visual artist. His creative work formed an essential component of his identity, complementing his academic achievements. Throughout his life, he was appreciated for his multifaceted talents and remembered as someone who made meaningful contributions through both his professional work and his artistic expression.
